Vincerò Academy’s Conducting Workshop takes place in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Conducting Workshop takes place in person with full orchestra and is primarily aimed at young conductors, pianists, coaches, and repetiteurs interested in developing their conducting skills and acquiring experience in front of an orchestra.

Priority will be given to pianists, coaches, and repetiteurs, but all young conductors are welcome to apply.

Workshop Details

  • Enrique Diemecke has enjoyed an international recording, operatic, and concert career for more than 40 years. In the words of The New York Times, “Diemecke is a conductor of fierceness and authority.” A noted interpreter of the works of Mahler, Maestro Diemecke was awarded the Mahler Society medal for his performances of the composer’s complete symphonies.

    Maestro Diemecke is an experienced conductor of opera, and he is the only internationally acclaimed conductor to ever hold the position of Artistic General Director of the world renowned Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Maestro Diemecke began his rise to musical leadership at the Teatro Colón as Music Director of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic, an anchor ensemble of the theater. He led the Philharmonic for an unprecedented 17 years, and as General Artistic Director of the Teatro Colón, oversaw all artistic activities of opera, concerts and ballet from 2017 through 2022. Previously he served as Music Director of the Bellas Artes Opera of Mexico from 1984-1990,

    Maestro Diemecke has been Music Director of the award-winning Flint Symphony Orchestra in Michigan for 33 seasons. Their recording of the 1896 version of Mahler’s First Symphony was nominated for a Grammy Award.

    He has been Music Director of the Bogota Philharmonic, the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, and was at the helm of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico for 20 years, leading the ensemble on a tour of the United States, culminating at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Their recording of Carlos Chávez’ Violin and Piano Concertos was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Classical Album.

    Maestro Diemecke is a frequent guest of orchestras throughout the world, most notably the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, French National Orchestra, BBC Symphony, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, L’Orchestre de Paris, Residentie Orkest in The Hague, Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Brisbane, the Russian National Orchestra, the Bogotá Philharmonic, the Puerto Rico Symphony, Simón Bolivar Orchestra in Caracas, l’Orchestre National de Lorraine, the National Orchestra of Montpellier, the Valladolid Symphony, the ORCAM Madrid, L’Orchestre de Isle de France, and the symphony orchestras of Baltimore, Houston, Minnesota, and Auckland.

  • The aim of the program is to provide young conductors, pianists, coaches, and repetiteurs with the experience in front of a real orchestra under the guidance of Maestro Enrique Diemecke, who will select 6 musicians for this intensive program focusing on staples of the operatic repertoire.

    The week-long session from May 29 to June 3 will include:

    • Five daily score analysis sessions

    • Five daily rehearsals with two pianos (the selected students will be expected to alternate playing the piano in these sessions)

    • Five daily rehearsals with orchestra

    • Each conductor will lead the orchestra in the closing concert on June 3.

    Additionally, accepted participants will be admitted into Vincerò Academy’s online Apprentice Pianists program.

  • Each conductor will have a total of 150 minutes of podium time in front of the orchestra, plus their participation in the closing concert conducting one overture and one aria.

  • All the sessions will be recorded with a frontal camera facing the conductor and each conductor will receive a recording of each one of their sessions with orchestra and the closing concert.

  • The Tuition for Active Participants includes the complete week-long workshop including all of its activities and the recordings of each session with orchestra.

    Additionally, accepted participants will be admitted into Vincerò Academy’s online Apprentice Pianists program.

    Each student will be responsible for their own trip to and from Monterrey, lodging, transportation within the city, and meals.

    Lodging can be provided upon request at an extra cost.
